Assam: Fleeing Suspect In Kokrajhar LIC Robbery Case Shot At By Police


GUWAHATI: One of the prime suspects in the robbery of ₹34 lakh from an LIC branch near Axis Bank, Kokrajhar was shot at while trying to flee on Sunday, June 30.

The suspect, Amir Hussain, 38, from Village No. 3 Bhandara Bijni Manikpur in Chirang, suffered a bullet wound to his left leg during the incident. 

The robbery took place on June 25.

Police earlier apprehended four suspects from Chirang, Dhubri, and Kokrajhar districts. 

Acting on leads, police conducted a search at Salakati Bedlangmary Tea Estate on the night of June 30. During the operation, Hussain allegedly attempted to flee, prompting police to open fire. He was taken to Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospital in Kokrajhar for treatment. 

Assam DGP GP Singh also earlier took to X to put out, “Reference recent robbery of Rs 34 Lacs of LIC from near Axis Bank, Kokrajhar town - Total four persons, including Manager and driver of the cash carrying vehicle, have been arrested from various parts of Assam and nearby state and Rs 21.5 Lacs recovered so far. Well done @KokrajharP led by SP.”
