GUWAHATI: Recognised as the first established industry in Assam, the tea sector has long been a vital source of sustainable livelihood for a significant portion of the population. Bimal Borah, the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Public Enterprises, and Cultural Affairs, has announced initiatives to enhance the state's tea industry.

A recent step in this direction involves the reclassification of tea garden land for industrial use. This move aims to optimise land utilisation by demarcating areas suitable for industrial activities, all while considering environmental factors to preserve the ecological balance.

The anticipated impact of this initiative extends beyond the tea industry, promising to attract new industries, generate employment opportunities, and drive overall economic growth in the region.

Minister Borah, accompanied by cabinet colleague Jogen Mohan, recently conducted a meeting to assess tea gardens with the potential for reclassification.
