Assam: Elephant Attack Kills A Farmer In Udalguri

GUWAHATI: A farmer lost his life in a deadly encounter with a herd of wild elephants in Udalguri on October 25.

The individual identified to be Abinash Gowala aged 39 was killed post this encounter as he was returning home after participating in Durga Puja celebrations in the local area.

He was reportedly accompanied by his 8-year-old son, who narrowly escaped the attack but sustained serious injuries. Abinash, who had previously worked in the vicinity of the Batabari forest range, was trampled to death by the wild elephants, media reports stated.

"We usually take cover when elephants approach our homes because we are familiar with their presence. Unfortunately, Abinash missed the warning signs that evening," one local resident said while speaking to the media.

As per reports, a post-mortem examination was subsequently conducted at a nearby government hospital to ascertain the cause of Abinash's demise. While the young boy was seriously injured in the attack, he is currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital and is in stable condition.
