Assam: Electrification of Railway Tracks Under NFR to be Completed by 2021

GUWAHATI: Trains in Guwahati are set to run on electric traction by mid-2021 as work is currently being undertaken with full force for the same.

Railways workers can be regularly seen on the railway tracks from Kamakhya station to Guwahati Railway station, especially in the Santipur and Bharalumukh areas.


Speaking to G Plus, Pranab Jyoti Sarma, Chief PRO of Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) confirmed the same.


"We have got all sanctions from the headquarters and work is currently being conducted. We are hopeful of completing it by next year," he said.


The electrification of all railway tracks up till Dibrugarh has already been sanctioned by the Centre and work is being undertaken in phases. Electrification of 1,085 km of railway tracks, including the Raninagar - Jalpaiguri - New Bongaigaon - Rangia and Guwahati sections were to be completed by March 2020.


Total 6,242 kilometres of the railway tracks under NFR is to be electrified, of which more than 50 percent has already been completed.
