Assam Election 2021 Dates Announced

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the poll dates for Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry on Friday, February 26.


Assam Elections shall be held in three phases – 


In the first phase, 47 constituencies shall go into poll. The issue of nomination shall be till March 2, last date of nomination March 9, scrutiny of nomination March 10, last date of withdrawal of nomination March 12, date of poll march 27 and date of counting May 2.


In the second phase, 39 constituencies shall go into poll. The issue of nomination shall be till March 5, last date of nomination March 12, scrutiny of nomination March 15, last date of withdrawal of nomination March 17, date of poll April 1 and date of counting May 2.


In the third phase, 40 constituencies shall go into poll. The issue of nomination shall be till March 12, last date of nomination March 19, scrutiny of nomination March 20, last date of withdrawal of nomination March 22, date of poll April 6 and date of counting May 2.
 

The total number of assembly seats in Assam is 126, with 8 in SC category and 16 in ST category.


Five states including Assam are due for Assembly elections this year. A total of 824 assembly constituencies shall be going for polls during these elections. 18.68 crore electors will cast vote at 2.7 lakh polling stations in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry. 


The tenure of the current Assam government is May 31, Tamil Nadu is May 24, West Bengal is May 30, Kerala is June 1 and Puducherry is June 8. 


The Chief Election Commissioner of India ensured that adequate safety of deployment shall be deployed amid Covid-19 pandemic.


“Vaccination drive has made the situation more conducive for elections. All poll officials will be vaccinated against COVID-19 before elections for five assemblies," Sunil Arora said.
