Assam: Driving License Of Repeat Offenders To Be Cancelled

GUWAHATI: During the recent Superintendent of Police (SP) Conference, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma put forth a comprehensive plan to tackle road traffic accidents in the state stressing the urgent need to prioritise road safety and highlighting the significance of strict enforcement measures to combat drunk driving and traffic violations.

In his address, the Chief Minister underlined the gravity of the road accident issue and emphasised that a concerted effort from all segments of society is necessary to address this challenge effectively.

A "whole of government" approach, bringing together various departments and agencies, will be crucial in implementing a robust road safety strategy.

CM Sarma called for strict enforcement of laws pertaining to drunk driving and traffic violations, signalling the state government's commitment to ensuring that those who flout road safety rules face appropriate consequences.

Through effective law enforcement, the government aims to create a strong deterrent against reckless driving practices that put lives at risk.

As part of the strategy to curb road accidents, CM Sarma proposed a combination of imposing fines and cancelling driving licenses for repeat offenders.

The imposition of fines serves as a punitive measure to deter traffic violations, while cancelling driving licenses for chronic offenders would prevent them from endangering lives on the roads.
