GUWAHATI: A doctor was assaulted and a government hospital was vandalized by a mob in Goalpara district of Assam on Wednesday evening, September 18.

Based on a report by The Hindu, an FIR has been lodged with Dudhnoi police but no arrest has been made so far.

It should be noted that the Assam Medical Service Association (AMSA) has condemned the incident.

Prior to the vandalism, a nurse stated that three people were brought to the hospital who were injured. A doctor on duty had declared that one of the injured had been brought dead but people who were gathered there disagreed and vandalised the hospital before attacking the doctor, Apurba Boro.

The doctor and other hospital staff were rescued by the police before the mob could do more damage.

It should be noted that this incident occurred almost less than a month after the killing of 73-year-old doctor Deben Dutta at Teok Tea Estate.
