Assam: Crimes Involving Children On The Rise

GUWAHATI: State Social Welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma recently informed that crimes related to children are on the rise in Assam.

Brahma said this while replying to a query by Congress MLA Roselina Tirkey on the second day of the monsoon session of the Assam Assembly.

Brahma stated that while 1071 crimes related to children were reported in 2017-18, the number has seen a steep rise in 2018-19, climbing up to 1537, with an increase of 466 cases. 

963 cases of theft involving children were also reported in the past three years. 

In addition to that, children were also involved in 273 murders, 583 kidnappings, 603 rapes, 129 robberies, 476 beating cases and 708 ditching cases. 

The State Social Welfare minister further stated that 109 cases under the Arms Act and 28 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act involving children were also reported.
