GUWAHATI: The total number of COVID cases in Assam is fast closing in on the 65,000-mark.
COVID positive cases in Assam reached 64,406 on Tuesday, August 12 with 2,669 more persons testing positive for the deadly virus.

Announcing the latest positive cases, state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "Alert ~ 2669 COVID cases detected out of 52062 tests in last 24 hrs. Positivity rate- 5.12%. Kamrup (M)- 399, Dibrugarh- 259, Karbi Anglong- 189, Tinsukia- 181."
While an increasing number of people are testing positive for COVID-19, a significant number of people are also being cured and discharged in the state.
The total number of cases in Assam now stands at 64,406 with 19,175 active cases.

While 45,073 persons have been cured and discharged, 155 deaths have been recorded till date in the state.
Further, 3 persons have migrated to other states.
