Assam Man Arrested From Bengaluru For Circulating Obscene Photographs

 

GUWAHATI: The cybercrime branch of the Police Commisionerate, Guwahati arrested a person on the charge of morphing pictures of girls into obscene content and then circulating them, on April 24.

On September 28, 2023, a complaint was lodged by a girl, whose identity has been withheld, and her friends from a local college in the city.

They reported receiving unsolicited calls and messages from various mobile numbers from a person who identified himself as Nabajit Nath or Nabajit Talukdar.

The accused also sent vulgar messages and circulated obscene morphed pictures of some of the girls on various social media platforms, instilling fear and causing mental trauma among them.

The police pursued the case and located the suspect in Bangalore. Upon further investigation, the identity of the accused was confirmed to be Md Billal Hussain, a 22-year-old male from Dhula, Darrang, operating from Bangalore. The police finally arrested him on Wednesday.

The investigation also revealed that the accused, using aliases like Nabajit Nath and Nabajit Talukdar, established a close relationship with one of the victim girls over social media platforms.

However, none of the victims had met the accused in person; and their interaction was solely through social media and phone calls.

When the victims discovered that the accused was not employed and lacked education, they severed communication, angering the accused.

Subsequently, the accused threatened to ruin the complainant's life and resorted to circulating morphed obscene pictures of the victim and her friends, demanding illegal favours.

It was uncovered that Hussain, who was employed as a security guard in Bangalore, concealed his true religious identity and adopted a Hindu name to establish communication with the victims.

The breakthrough in the case came through technical analysis, which pinpointed the accused's location in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Through a combination of technical and human intelligence, the accused was identified, apprehended, and interrogated.

Hussain confessed to his crimes during interrogation, leading to the recovery of his mobile phone and SIM cards used in the commission of the offenses.

The arrested accused has been produced before the court and remanded to police custody for five days.
