Assam Burns as Lok Sabha Likely to Begin Discussion on CAB

GUWAHATI: Several parts of Guwahati including rest of Assam has seen sudden unrest among the citizens as Amit Shah tabled the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) in Lok Sabha on December 9.

Reportedly, Anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Bill protesters burnt tyres, clashed with police and many raised slogans protesting against the CAB.

Meanwhile, in the upper Assam districts- Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Majuli witnessed strong protests as thousands spilled onto the streets demanding the scrapping of the Bill.

Guwahati also witnessed protests as mobs attacked police personnel and damaged public vehicles in Bamunimaidan area. Similar incidents were reported in the Fancy Bazar area of Guwahati.

Meanwhile, Gauhati University, Dibrugarh University and Cotton Univesity has cancelled all exams scheduled for December 10 as the North East Students’ Organisation has called for a ‘Northeast Bandh’ tomorrow.
