Usha was in tears recalling how the people there took away his cap, tore the shirt and racially abused him.

He went on to say how when he went to the police station, he didn’t receive any help rather he was mocked for the clothes he was wearing.

He sought help from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Rupjyoti Kurmi, MLA from Mariani seeking justice for the suffering he had to undergo.

“Just for being a girl with short hair and for taking a stroll in the neighbourhood at night, I was harassed both verbally and physically by some people in the neighbourhood in Mariani. Also, the entire staff at the police station was mocking my dress;  the accused had good connections with the police and were given all the hospitality whereas the victim had to wait for the accused for 3 hours and yet no justice was given. I was harassed to the extent that I was forced to show that I am a female in front of everyone. They snatched my shirt partially baring my chest. They threw racial slurs at me and even assaulted me physically. The insult was so great that I even contemplated suicide later that night. I don’t know where my fault is for going through all of this. Did I just go through this torture for exercising my own freedom? All I demand is justice so that no such incident ever occurs to another girl in the society. My humble request to honourable CM @himantabiswasarma @rkurmi_official kindly help me get justice for this shameful act against me,” Usha’s post read.

Replying to Usha’s social media post, the Assam Police commented saying, “A case has been registered in this regard. SDPO Titabor is in touch with the complainant and is closely supervising further action as per the law.”

The Assam Police further said that the matter is being looked into.

While talking to GPlus, a police official from Mariani Police Station said, “We are investigating the matter, we have already started questioning people and hope to make some progress soon.”
