GUWAHATI: To foster the growth of Assamese cinema, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog unveiled significant initiatives in the Budget for 2024-25 on February 12.
Addressing the need to encourage big-screen Assamese cinema, the government plans to provide a grant of ₹10 lakh to full-fledged Assamese cinemas, aiming to support and elevate the regional film industry.
Furthermore, a step to support artists and technicians associated with Assamese cinema and mobile theatre was announced. They will be brought under the Atal Pension Yojana, a move designed to ensure financial security for these key contributors to the cultural landscape of Assam.
Under this scheme, the government will contribute 50% of the Atal Pension Yojana contribution to artists and technicians for a period of five years. This substantial financial backing is expected to alleviate financial burdens and provide a safety net for those dedicated to the field of Assamese cinema.
