GUWAHATI: A worker of an Anganwadi centre at Howly in Barpeta, Assam, was allegedly beaten by the parents of a child for refusing to distribute eggs during the lunch time.
According to reports, the incident took place in Anganwadi Centre 2 in the Kaljhar village on Wednesday, August 31. The worker Sahatan Ahmad was allegedly attacked by Hafizur Khan and Chan Bhanu Khatun.
Reports say that during the time the boiled eggs were distributed to the children of the centre, the parents arrived and asked for an egg for their child who was absent on that day. When the worker refused and said that they would not be given the boiled egg in the name of any child who was not present at the centre, she was beaten and physically assaulted by the parents.
The worker told the media, “On Wednesday, the parents of a child came to the centre and asked for a boiled egg. The child was not present that day so when I refused and said that there is no rule of providing food to those who are not present in the centre, his parents and others started to beat me and my daughter. We can’t give additional food to others like that, there are rules and we have to submit a photo to the authorities every day.”
