GUWAHATI: Over 62,000 people in 145 villages under 14 revenue circles of the state’s eight districts have been affected by floods during the past 24 hours due to heavy rainfall all over the region as the rivers of the state are in spate, according to a flood bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

The flood-hit districts include Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, barpeta, Chirang, Golaghat, Jorhat and Dibrugarh. The revenue circles affected by flood include Jonai in Dhemaji district, Nawboicha, North Lakhimpur and Bihpuria in Lakhimpur district, Halem in Biswanath district, Kalgachia and Barpeta in Barpeta district, Golaghat, Bokakhat and Dergaon in Golaghat district, Bijni in Chirang district, Jorhat West and Titabar in Jorhat district and Chabua in Dibrugarh district.
It should be noted that a total crop area of 3,435 hectares has also been affected by floodwaters in these districts and Dhemaji district has recorded the highest number of flood-hit people.
