GUWAHATI: The students from Arya Vidyapeeth College took to the streets on Saturday morning to protest the continued negligence surrounding the installation of speed breakers in front of their institution.

The demonstration, which unfolded between 10 AM and 11:30 AM, saw over 50 students passionately voicing their demands for increased road safety measures. The focal point of their protest was the pressing issue of vehicular accidents that have plagued the vicinity of the college due to reckless speeding.

Speaking to G Plus, Subarna Nath, a student of Arya Vidyapeeth College who joined the protest, emphasised the gravity of the situation. He stated, "There have been far too many accidents in this area attributed to speeding vehicles." Nath continued, "Just yesterday, another unfortunate accident occurred right here."

The students' grievances stem from the perceived lack of action by the authorities in addressing this critical safety concern. They have called for the immediate installation of speed breakers to slow down vehicles in front of Arya Vidyapeeth College and ensure the safety of all students and pedestrians in the area.

Speaking to G Plus, a senior official from Public Works Department (PWD) said, "When the sanction remains unclear, contractors often face challenges in cooperating with us, making the situation difficult. Nonetheless, we will be looking into this matter."
