GUWAHATI: The Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), Government of India, has recently announced the opening of five Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in Assam for the 2025-26 academic session. These schools are dedicated to providing quality education for ST and other underprivileged children under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and will be operated by the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS).

The newly sanctioned EMRS will be located in Kharadhara (Bajali), Jalah (Baksa), Jonai (Dhemaji), Howraghat (Karbi Anglong), and Ardaopur (Dima Hasao).
Each school will offer 60 seats (Sections A & B) for admission to Class VI, with selection based on an entrance examination scheduled for March 30, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.
Important Dates:
- Application Period: March 7 – March 17
- Admit Card Availability: March 21
- Entrance Examination: March 30
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be permanent residents of Assam.
- Age: 10 to 13 years as of March 31, 2025.
- Family’s annual income must not exceed ₹5 lakh.
Applicants should have passed Class V from a government-recognised school or, in the case of home-schooled children, a self-declaration from the parents/guardians will be required.
Interested candidates can submit their applications online through the official website https://avs.assam.gov.in. No hardcopy applications will be accepted.
