Alert Issued In Guwahati As Brahmaputra River Flows Above Danger Level

 

GUWAHATI: In response to the rising water levels of Brahmaputra which is currently flowing above its danger level of 49.68 m, as on Tuesday, July 2, a public advisory by the Kamrup Metro District Disaster Management has been released. As per this order, residents living near the riverfront, riverbanks, and close to the river course are advised to stay alert for potential breaches of the riverbanks or embankments and possible overflows.

To ensure the safety of life and property, the following precautions are recommended:

-The use of country boats and fishing activities in and around the Brahmaputra River is prohibited until further notice.

-Floodwaters may be contaminated with sewage, chemicals, or other hazards.

-Attempting to swim or cross a flooded river, stream, or any flowing waterbody is highly risky.

-Children and elderly individuals should stay in safe locations.

-Floodwaters may contain snakes, animals, and other dangers.

-Do not touch or approach submerged transformers, inverters, electrical posts, or wires.

-If someone falls into the water, rescue them only if you are trained to do so; otherwise, seek help from trained personnel like SDRF or VDPs.

-Keep up-to-date through local news and emergency alerts.

-The people have been requested to adhere to instructions from local authorities and emergency responders.

-The citizens have been requested to follow any evacuation orders issued by authorities.

-Residents must inform any government authority, including the DC Office, Circle Office, local police station, or Water Resources Department, for immediate intervention to protect life and property.

Violation of these guidelines may result in legal action under relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and other applicable laws.
