GUWAHATI: During the ongoing lockdown, the Airport Authority of India, Northeast region, has been delivering essential commodities, emergency and medical good.
In a press release issued by the AAI, it has been informed that cargo flights consisting of dedicated freighters and helicopters have been catering to the needs of the region.
A total of 90 tonnes of air cargo has been delivered.
Addressing the press, Sanjeev Jindal, Executive Director of AAI, NER informed that AAI under it's CSR scheme has donated Rs. 10 lakhs to each of the state governments. The fund will be used to procure PPEs, protective kits and equipment for health workers and hospitals in the states.
The employees of AAI have also voluntarily donated 3 to 5 days' salary to the PM-CARES fund, some even a month's salary.
Further, 10 airports of the region will feed 500 families at each airport providing 5 kg of rice to each.
As for the Anganwadi workers, Rs 25 lakhs has been donated to Manipur and Rs 20 lakhs to Rani block in Assam with the help of UNDP-UNICEF.
AAI in total has donated Rs 15 crores under CSR fund, Rs 3 crores is from the northeast region.
Further, mask and protection kits have also been provided for the media fraternity and similar measures amounting to Rs 50 lakhs are also to be donated to police personnel.
The AAI Kalyanmayee, the women welfare wing are helping self help group in preparing around 10,000 masks for the needy.
It was also informed that all airports are prepared to resume regular operations with all preparations in place if the lockdown expires on 15th April.
