AASU Unhappy With NRC, To Appeal In Supreme Court

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) expressed their disappointed with the National Register of Citizens (NRC) which was updated and released on August 31.

“The NRC which has been released is not error-free and seems like it has a lot of errors. We are not happy with the list and we believe that the updation process had some deficiencies and was not up to the mark,” said AASU president Dipankar Kumar Nath while addressing a press conference on Saturday.

Further, AASU chief advisor Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya said that that they will submit an appeal in the Supreme Court to address the flaws that have persisted in the NRC.

“We feel the NRC is not yet complete and we were expecting a better result. There are still a lot of errors. We have full faith on the Supreme Court and thus we are submitting a plea in the Supreme Court,” mentioned Bhattacharya.

He further added that all future works related to the NRC must be conducted under the supervision of the apex court.  

It is to be mentioned that and more than 19 lakh people were excluded from the final NRC list.

A total of 19,06,657 people were left out of the final list which were made available to view at NRC Seva Kendras. This also includes those who had not applied for claims and objections. Further a total of 3,11,21,004 people were included in the final NRC list.
