AASU activists Burn PM Modi’s Effigy in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) took out a protest rally in front of their head office, Swahid Nyas Bhawan in the Uzan Bazaar area and burnt the effigy of Narendra Modi in addition to waving black flags as PM Modi arrived in Changsari from Itanagar on Saturday, February 9. 

The Prime Minister who had arrived in Guwahati on Friday, February 8 was met with protests from members of AASU and other organisations in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill on that day and even today, February 9. Slogans like ‘Modi Go Back,’ ‘Scrap Citizenship Bill,’ ‘Joi Aai Asom’ and ‘BJP hai hai’ were hurled at the Prime Minister. 

Heavy police security has been arranged all throughout the city and its surrounding areas to ensure a hassle-free visit for the PM. The Assam Police also banned the movement of people and vehicles along the stretch between AASU’s office and the Raj Bhawan.
