Guwahati: Crackdown On Gang Involved In Kidnapping And Robbery, 5 Arrested

 

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati (West) police district has successfully dismantled a criminal gang involved in kidnapping gullible passengers near Jalukbari rotary and robbing them of their valuable belongings. The operation follows a series of incidents reported at Jalukbari out-post, where unsuspecting individuals waiting for public transport were targeted by criminals offering lifts in private vehicles.

According to police sources, the gang's modus operandi involved targeting passengers waiting for public buses or travellers on the Jalukbari flyover. They would offer rides to victims, claiming to be heading towards the same destination.

After some time, the victims would be given tea laced with sedatives, rendering them unconscious. Subsequently, the criminals would loot their valuables, including cash, jewellery, and electronic devices, and extract sensitive information such as ATM PINs and Google Pay details.

Tragically, one of the victims, Late Asmot Ali, lost his life in a related incident when he was dropped on the NH in Baihata Chariali area and subsequently struck by an unknown vehicle.

The police cracked the case through meticulous investigation, including analysis of CCTV footage, phone records, and digital payment transactions. This led to the identification and apprehension of the gang members responsible for the crimes.

The arrested suspects include Majnur Ali, who is also known as Goria, from Azara, Rahim Ali from Chaygaon, Amir Hamza from Kalaigaon, Tafazul Ali from Gobardhana, and Lutfur Rahman from Barpeta Road. Furthermore, the police seized two vehicles used in the commission of the crimes.
