A S Bopanna takes oath as Chief Justice Gauhati High Court

GUWAHATI: Justice Ajjikuttira Somaiah Bopanna took oath as the next Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on Monday at Raj Bhawan.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at Darbar Hall of the Raj Bhawan in the presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.   

The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, on 24th October, appointed Justice Ajjikuttira Somaiah Bopanna, Judge of the Karnataka High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

The office of Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court fell vacant upon the retirement of Justice Ajit Singh.

Chief Justice Ajjikuttira Somaiah Bopanna enrolled as an advocate in 1984, following which he dealt with civil, constitutional, company, service and labour matters. 

He practices in the High Court as well as the civil and labour courts. He has served as an additional standing counsel for the Government between 1999 and 2005. 

He was appointed an Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court in 2006. His appointment was made permanent in March 2007.
