GUWAHATI: In a significant initiative by the Gatka Federation of India (GFI) and with the support of the Gatka Association of Assam, the 7th National Gatka Championship commenced today at the Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium in Sarusajai, Guwahati. The first day of the three-day event witnessed the presence of enthusiastic teams from various states and union territories of India, who gathered to participate in this traditional martial arts competition.
The esteemed occasion saw the presence of the Assam Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, who extended his best wishes and encouragement to all the participating teams representing their respective states and regions.
The event was organised under the leadership of the President of the Gatka Federation of India and other distinguished personalities, who attended the inauguration ceremony to show their support for the promotion and growth of Gatka, a traditional Indian martial art.
Gatka is an ancient martial art form that originated in Punjab and involves the use of various weapons, including swords and sticks. The championship provides a platform for talented athletes from Assam and beyond to showcase their skills, strength, and dedication to this art form.
The 7th National Gatka Championship is expected to witness fierce yet friendly competitions over the course of the three days, as participants from different states vie for top honours.
Around 152 players are participating in the three-day meet.
