This investigation has exposed a network of corruption within the university's grading system. Further inquiries by Barpeta police have since uncovered multiple instances of marksheet scams within the district.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, addressing the media during his visit to Barpeta on Thursday, June 27, confirmed that those responsible for managing the university's computerised marksheet system were accepting bribes to increase students' marks. He revealed that the main accused in the scam has already been arrested and that six cases related to the incident have surfaced so far.

Sarma emphasised that both the Assam Police and the CID are jointly investigating the scam. He expressed concerns that such fraudulent activities might be occurring in other universities as well, and he has ordered a continued inquiry into the matter.

The scandal initially came to light when college authorities detected the forgery of marks by Azizul Haque, a sixth-semester undergraduate student. Reports suggest that the Barpeta police attempted to cover up the incident rather than arrest Haque, prompting media coverage and intervention by the chief minister.
