Gauhati University Suspends Access To Software Company Amidst Marksheet Forgery Scam

 

GUWAHATI: Gauhati University has initiated an in-depth investigation into unauthorised modifications in its student records, allegedly linked to ITI Limited, the software company engaged by the university. This follows a series of daily high-power emergency meetings to address the seriousness of the issue.

Key developments in the investigation:

1.    Detection of suspicious activities:

  • Gauhati University's internal review has identified multiple modifications in the records of an undergraduate student from an affiliated college. These changes were detected during emergency meetings held on June 24 and 25.
  • The modifications appear to have been made by the Unit Head of ITI Limited, a Government of India undertaking, who was responsible for managing the software database at the university.

2.    Actions Taken:

  • In response to these findings, Gauhati University has restricted all access granted to ITI Limited to prevent further unauthorised activities.
  • Access logs have been collected to facilitate an investigation into the extent of unauthorised handling and modifications.

3.    High-Power Committee:

  • A high-power confidential committee has been constituted to examine the potential damage caused by these suspicious activities. The committee is reviewing the access and actions taken by ITI Limited's personnel.
  • The university has summoned senior officials from ITI Limited to provide clarity and cooperation in the ongoing investigation.
