GUWAHATI: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the North East Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully rescued 23 minors during a week-long series of checking drives at various trains and railway stations across the region.
The extensive drives were conducted from September 8 to September 17. The drives were carried out at multiple locations, including New Bongaigaon, New Jalpaiguri, Jalpaiguri Road, Samsi, Badarpur, Barsoi, Rangiya, Katihar, and Dimapur railway stations.
Following standard protocols and ensuring the safety of the minors, all rescued individuals were promptly handed over to the respective Childlines after thorough verification. This approach guarantees their secure custody and eventual reunification with their families.
On September 9, the RPF escort party from Maligaon made a remarkable rescue, saving four runaway minor boys aboard Train Number 22449 (Guwahati – New Delhi) Express at New Bongaigaon Railway Station. The minors were later entrusted to Birjhora Children's Home in Bongaigaon to facilitate the necessary actions and care.
Another noteworthy incident occurred on September 17 when the RPF in Rangiya conducted a regular check at Rangiya Railway Station and rescued a runaway minor boy and girl. Subsequently, the rescued minors were placed under the care of Fatima Balika Dayadham in Rangiya.
