1344-Page Chargesheet Submitted Against 21 Govt Officials In PWD Scam

GUWAHATI: A chargesheet has been submitted against 21 government officials after probing an FIR filed against officials and staff of the PWD Dibrugarh Rural Road Division, officials of the Office of the Chief Engineer, PWD Roads, Assam, and officials and staff of the PWD Budget Branch, Assam Secretariat, Dispur, Guwahati, for alleged misappropriation of government funds amounting to Rs 1,30,47,282.

The accused are accused of colluding with contractors to submit forged demand proposals against 16 fake work orders for the construction of roads that were never actually built.

The FIR, registered under Vigilance P.S. Case No. 07/2017, invokes sections 120(B), 468, 409, 406, 471, 420 of the IPC, and 13 (1) (d) read with Sec. 13(2) of the P.C Act, 1988. 

Initially based on six forged demand proposals, the scope of the investigation expanded to include 10 more suspected forged works.

Following the completion of the investigation and receipt of prosecution sanction orders against the government officials, a chargesheet has been submitted in the Special Court against 21 arrested accused persons, out of 24 accused persons, three of whom have since passed away. The chargesheet spans a total of 1344 pages.
