GUWAHATI: A 13-year-old boy housed at an observation home in Bongaon, Boko, passed away recently , under unclear circumstances. The boy, a resident of Sijubari Natbama in Dispur, had been admitted to the home on November 8 by Paltan Bazar Police for alleged involvement in a theft incident reportedly linked to drug use.

According to reports, the minor displayed visible injuries on one of his hands. On November 18, after falling ill, he was briefly treated at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) before being sent back to the observation home the same night.
The boy’s father, while talking to the media said, “I saw my son at 1 PM (November 19). He seemed healthy and was speaking with me and his mother. We were asked to leave and told to return to court on Friday. However, after crossing Bijoynagar, I received a call asking me to come to the hospital. When I arrived, I found my son dead.”
Medical officials at Bamunigaon Model Hospital declared the child dead upon arrival. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of death. Boko Police visited the observation home and have initiated a probe into the incident.
