GUWAHATI: Assam's Transport Minister, Parimal Suklabaidya, disclosed concerning figures regarding the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC), revealing that a significant number of buses are currently non-operational. Out of a total of 1121 ASTC buses, along with 1380 privately-owned buses operating under ASTC, a staggering 127 buses are currently not in service.

Providing a financial overview, Minister Suklabaidya presented data for the years 2011-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-24. Operating revenue for ASTC witnessed fluctuations, with the figures standing at ₹70 crore, ₹104 crore, and ₹77 crore, respectively, over the mentioned periods. Similarly, non-operating revenue displayed variations, amounting to ₹9.75 crore, ₹20.69 crore, and ₹15 crore, respectively.
Highlighting income generated from ASTC buses, Minister Suklabaidya reported figures for 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-January 2024, amounting to ₹10.15 crore, ₹14.75 crore, and ₹10.37 crore, respectively. Additionally, the minister revealed a significant loss incurred by ASTC in the fiscal year 2022-23, amounting to ₹83 crore.

Regarding the fleet composition, Suklabaidya outlined the presence of electric buses, CNG buses, and privately-owned buses operating under ASTC. The fleet comprises 200 electric buses, 100 CNG buses, and 11 privately-owned buses, totaling to 311 buses in operation.
