Zebra Dies At Assam State Zoo, Post-Mortem Report Awaited To Ascertain Cause

GUWAHATI: A male zebra named Rocky died at Assam State Zoo on February 5. The animal had been under treatment for three days before it passed away, zoo officials confirmed.

There were two zebras and now Assam State Zoo is left with only. 

Speaking to GPlus, a senior official from Assam State Zoo said, “The zebra had been undergoing treatment since February 2. The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report.

“Efforts are being made to bring more zebras into the zoo,” officials added. 

After 30 years, the largest zoo in the northeast had received two zebras, along with two mandarin ducks, and a female giraffe in May, 2023. The two zebras, one male and one female, were brought from Mysore, Karnataka.
