GUWAHATI: A 26-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, April 22 by a team from the Noonmati Police Station in connection with an alleged sexual assault case reported near the City Centre Shopping Mall, GS Road, Guwahati.

The accused, identified as Hemanta Sonowal, a resident of Digboi, was apprehended from the Bhangagarh area.
The incident involved a 19-year-old girl and reportedly took place on Monday. Following the filing of a complaint, an operation led to the arrest of the accused within 24 hours.
Both the survivor and the accused have undergone medical examinations at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
Police have stated that further investigation is currently underway to ascertain the full sequence of events and gather additional evidence.
