We Will Bring Sharjeel Iman to Assam: DGP Bhaskar Mahanta

GUWAHATI: Assam Director General of Police (DGP), Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said on Thursday January 30, that the Assam police will bring Sharjeel Imam to Assam. 

Imam is a Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student, who was recently arrested on charges of sedition.

As per ANI, The DGP said, “We will bring him after taking a production warrant, our officer is also a part of the team that is interrogating him.”

The research scholar from JNU was arrested from his hometown Jehenabad, Bihar just a few hours after the Bihar police picked up his brother for questioning on January 28.

Imam is allegedly one of the organisers of the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) at Shaheen Bagh. A few days ago, he had said that their main aim is to cut off Assam and northeast from India.

He had said that Muslims are in such great numbers that they can cut out the entire Northeast from the rest of India.
