‘We are trying our best to implement the Assam Accord’: PM Modi

GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi kick started the campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections from Moran on Saturday.

While addressing the rally, the Prime Minister said that the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying its level best to implement the Assam Accord.

“We are trying our level best to ensure the implementation of the Assam Accord on which the Congress did not take any decision and had left it hanging for the past several years,” said Modi.         

The Assam Accord of 1985 seeks to safeguard cultural, social and linguistic identity of the indigenous people of Assam.      
Interestingly, the Union cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi had also approved the setting up of a committee to implement clause 6 of the Assam Accord a few months ago.

The Lok Sabha elections will take place in three phases in Assam on April 11, 18 and 23 respectively.
