GUWAHATI: Guwahati's Basistha River is struggling with a severe waste management crisis, with the situation from Notun Bazar to Latakata becoming increasingly dire. Residents in the area have expressed their frustration with the authorities inaction, as heaps of plastic and non-biodegradable waste continue to overwhelm the area.

One resident told Gplus that the river, once clear, has now become heavily polluted due to poor waste management practices. The accumulation of waste has led to a significant deterioration in water quality, causing concern among the local population.
In response to these issues, an official of Guwahati Municipal Corporation informed Gplus that a plan for regular garbage collection is in the works. Authorities are reportedly working to address the problem, but for many residents, the progress seems too slow as the river's condition worsens by the day.
