Villagers in Assam kill and feast on leopard

GUWAHATI : Villagers at Dillibari in Assam's Dibrugarh district on Thursday killed and ate a leopard. The leopard had reportedly injured around five people in the nearby Charaideo district before being attacked.

As per reports, residents of Dillibari alleged that when they tried to capture the animal, it jumped into a river and swam across to the other side. The leopard then entered Dillibari village in Tingkhang area of Dibrugarh. Here people attacked the animal with sticks and killed it. They then cut it into pieces, cooked its meat inside a tea garden and ate it.

They also claimed that the leopard attacked five people working in a tea estate in Atal Rangdhali village of Charaideo district.

On the other hand forest officials claimed that they had received the information regarding the incident. They said that they have tried creating awareness among the villagers and have sensitised them to not kill the animal. 

Meanwhile, in Guwahati a man identifiedas Prapta Kumar Chetri was injured after a leopard attacked him at Maligaon on January 10.
