Two Runners From Assam Complete World’s Highest Marathon In Ladakh

GUWAHATI: Two ultra-marathon runners from Assam have brought glory to the state after completing the ‘highest marathon in the world.’ On September 9 and September 11, Dr Pranami Chakravarty and Anupam Deka put Assam at the forefront of ultra-marathon running after completing the Ladakh Marathon.

On September 9, Friday, Dr Pranami Chakravarty, a paediatrician and a renowned ultra-marathoner and trail runner from Guwahati completed the Khardung La Challenge (72km) and on September 11, Sunday, Anupam Deka from Guwahati completed the Ladakh Marathon.

After successfully completing the Khardung La Challenge (72km), Chakravarty also Completed the Ladakh Marathon (42.195KM) within the next 48 hours on September 11 and became the first one from Assam to earn this feat.

On September 11, 2022, Anupam Deka, an IT Executive from Guwahati completed the Ladakh Marathon, covering a distance of 42.195 km well within the cutoff time and successfully completed the race. Deka completed the race in 5hrs 10 mins against the allotted time of 6hrs 45 mins. 

The Khardungla Challenge and  Ladakh Marathons are high endurance long-distance running races held in Leh. Ladakh marathon is the highest marathon in the world held at a height of 11,500 to 17,618 feet (3,505 to 5,370 m). The ninth edition of the Ladakh Marathon was held in September 2022 after being cancelled for two subsequent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the fifth marathon from India to get international recognition.
