Two NRC officials caught while accepting Rs 10,000 as bribe in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The vigilance and anti-corruption sleuths on June 13 have caught two employees red-handed at the NRC Seva Kendra of Dispur, Ganeshguri while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a woman complainant, Kajari Ghosh Dutta.

The bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused.

One of the two accused, Syed Shahjahan (48) has been working as a Field Level Officer (FLO) at the NRC Sewa Kendra and was arrested by the police.

Shahjahan had demanded the bribe for entering the name of the complainant in the draft NRC. The accused had highlighted some technical defects in her application and demanded the bribe to correct the technical defects and enter her name thereafter into the final draft of NRC.

Shahjahan was caught when the complainant was to pay the bribe amount.

The complainant had approached the ACB PS in the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti Corruption, Assam and a trap was laid down to catch the guilty.

In addition, a separate FIR has been filed against Rahul Parasar (27), Asstt Local Registrar of Citizen Registration (LRCR) of the same NRC Sewa Kendra, in connection with the bribery case.

Parasar was arrested after his involvement in the crime came to light. 

Both the accused public servants will be forwarded to the Special Court tomorrow morning (June 14).
