Assam Police on March 9 recovered the stolen motorcycle of Uttarakhand-based biker Mohit from Fakirganj in Dhubri district. The bike, which had been taken from Maddy’s House guest house in Guwahati’s Sarusajai area on March 6, was recovered in a joint operation by Basistha and Fakirganj Police. The recovered vehicle was subsequently transported to Basistha Police Station. In connection with the theft, authorities earlier apprehended two suspects, identified as Firoz Qazi and Ashraful Dewan.
A biker from Uttarakhand, known as ‘Rider Noni’ and who is on a 30,000 km ‘Women Empowerment’ ride, had taken to Instagram to share a video about the incident. Mohit is a part of her group. She had appealed to the Assam Police and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for help in recovering the bike, the loss of which had impacted the group’s travel plans. She stated that she had been on tour for the past six months, covering nearly half of India, but faced this unexpected setback for the first time just upon entering Assam.
The biker shared CCTV footage of the theft and explained that after entering the Northeast, other riders, including Mohit, had joined her in the journey. In Guwahati, they booked a guesthouse in Sarusajai from where the bike was stolen. Given Noni’s wide following on social media, the news of the theft had reached across the country. Noni on March 11, also expressed her gratitude to Guwahati Police for recovering a stolen motorcycle belonging to her riders' group
