Two-day long “Northeast Fiesta” organized in Jalandhar

A two-day long ‘Northeast Fiesta’ was organized by Northeast Students’ Organization, Jalandhar. This 3rd edition of the ‘Northeast Fiesta’ started on 07 April, 2018 and concluded on 08 April, 2018.

With the aim to celebrate culture, connect people and transform lives, Northeast Fiesta was organized in Jalandhar, Punjab to showcase the cultural diversity of all the Northeastern states of India to the people of Punjab. The event  also had a cultural exchange program to foster integrity, prosperity and excellence. 

The event had a display of handicrafts, handloom, art, traditional sports, photography and a tourism exhibition of all the eight states. All the 8 states presented their traditional folk music and dance and mesmerised the guests and the local visitors. A few Northeast and Jalandhar based musicians and bands also participated in the 2 day event. 

Eminent speaker Arvind Mishra, a Guinness world record holder and a TedX speaker was also a part of the event. DJ Prinal, an eminent EDM artist of Vh1 enthralled the audience at the last day of the event.

Kritika Sharma, FBB Campus Princess winner 2018 was the showstopper for LINAN, a fashion show by talented designers Linthoi and Nandini from Manipur and Assam respectively.

Singing talents from Northeast such as Salchame Sangma and Ophilia Kharluki from Meghalaya and Fable from Nagaland enthralled the audience of Punjab.

This year Northeast Fiesta saw an International twist as Niharika Gyawali from Nepal mesmerised the audience with her voice. Professional models from Afghanistan, Bhutan, and few from African countries also participated in the designer showcase. 

Renowned footballers from Manipur, Jeakson Singh Thounaojam, the first goal scorer of India in any FIFA tournament and  Nongdamba Naorem, both from India's Under-17 Football World Cup 2017 squad, graced the event as Guests of Honour.

"Northeast Fiesta is a platform to bridge the gap between the Northeastern States of India and showcased the cultural beauty of respective states to the people here in Punjab and also provide a platform for young talented designers, singers and many more," said Borunjyoti Borgohai, co-founder of Northeast Students Organization Jalandhar, Punjab.
