GUWAHATI: In a significant move to combat the rising cases of cybercrime in the state, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated two Cyber Crime Police Stations during a three-day SP Conference at Bongaigaon.
The first station, located at the CID Headquarters, will possess jurisdiction across the entire state, while the second station, under the Guwahati City Commissionerate, will focus on addressing cybercrime within Guwahati City.
The CID Cyber Police Station has been equipped with cutting-edge cyber forensic tools, including mobile data extraction tools, image and video enhancement tools, high-end workstations, password recovery software, cryptocurrency chain analysis tools, mobile phone unlocking tools, disk duplicators, and more.
Furthermore, the CID Cyber Police Station will establish two additional Cyber Outposts, strategically positioned in Dibrugarh to serve upper Assam districts and in Silchar to cover Barak Valley districts. These outposts will act as essential support centres, expanding the reach of cybercrime investigation capabilities to various corners of the state.
To ensure the effective handling of cybercrime cases, Investigating Officers with technical expertise and a keen interest in cyber investigations were handpicked and underwent specialised training at renowned institutions like the National Cyber Crime Training Centre in New Delhi and NIELIT Khanapara, along with training sessions at the CID Headquarters.
These skilled officers, referred to as "1.0s," have now been assigned to the newly established Cyber Police Stations and Cyber Outposts.
Sarma expressed his confidence that these new facilities and trained personnel would significantly strengthen the state's infrastructure and capacity to combat cybercrime effectively.
This comprehensive approach will undoubtedly aid in safeguarding the citizens of Assam against the ever-evolving threats of the digital world.
