GUWAHATI: Two minor girls were rescued from the clutches of child marriage in separate incidents in Morigaon on Monday, February 24. The Child Helpline (CHL) Morigaon team, working in collaboration with the Morigaon Police Station, intervened in both cases to protect the girls.

In the first incident, a report was made to the Child Helpline (1098) regarding a minor girl who had been married a month prior. The CHL team and police swiftly responded, successfully rescuing the young girl.
The second case came to light in Konwar Gaon after the Gaon Pradhan alerted authorities that a minor girl was being forced into marriage by a boy and his parents. Prompt action by the CHL team and police prevented the illegal marriage, and an FIR was filed at Morigaon Police Station against those involved.
Authorities have reiterated that child marriage is a punishable offense under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. They are urging the public to report any suspected cases of child marriage to the Child Helpline at 1098.
