Addressing a gathering of business leaders, industry heads, and government officials who have congregated for the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit in Guwahati, he said that the northeastern state’s economy, valued at ₹275 lakh crore in 2018, had grown to ₹600 lakh crore in just six years.
Modi recalled a statement he had made during an election rally in Assam back in 2013, where he had predicted that the state would become synonymous with growth. "I had said that a time would come when, while learning the alphabet, children would say ‘A for Assam’," he remarked, adding that by 2030, the state would witness further development.
Highlighting infrastructure growth, the prime minister also noted that before 2014, only three bridges had been built over the Brahmaputra River in six decades. However, since 2014, five more bridges have been constructed to improve connectivity in the region.
Modi further highlighted India’s commitment to advancing its semiconductor industry. He stated that Assam would play a pioneering role in leading this industrial revolution, positioning itself as a hub for technological and economic growth.
The prime minister’s remarks came at the inaugural session of the summit, amid efforts by the Centre to boost industrial investment in the Northeast, with Assam being positioned as a critical driver of India’s economic future. The summit is set to conclude tomorrow.
