Two caught with US dollars worth Rs. 3 crores 78 lakhs from Guwahati Railway Station

GUWAHATI: The train checking party of Guwahati GRPS recovered US dollars 540,000 from platform no. 2 of the Guwahati Railway Station on Friday, March 23. The amount is worth rupees three crores and 78 lakhs in Indian currency. 

The two people carrying the cash have been identified as Golianmung (21) and Thang Piang (19), both of whom come from Churachandpur district in Manipur. 

During interrogation, the accused stated that they had boarded the train at New Jalpaiguri railway station in West Bengal and got down at Guwahati railway station from UP Saraighat Express. They further planned to move to Manipur by bus. 

Both the accused have been handed over to Customs Department officials for follow-up action.
