GUWAHATI: The anti-smuggling unit of the Guwahati Customs Division arrested two individuals from Nilbagan village in Nagaon district on December 9.

The arrests followed the recovery of the skin of a male baby Royal Bengal tiger, estimated to be around two years old, along with skeletal remains.
The operation took place in the Nilbagan area of Nagaon district. The two accused intended to smuggle out the tiger skin , having killed the animal over a year ago in Karbi Anglong.
Acting on specific intelligence, the team intercepted the suspects, who were traveling on a two-wheeler registered in Nagaon district. Upon inspection, officials discovered a white gunny bag containing the tiger's skin, measuring approximately 5 feet 10 inches long, and over 200 bone parts, including the skull, jaws, and canine teeth. The total weight of the skeletal remains was recorded at 2,341 gram.
Authorities are investigating the case further to uncover the extent of the network and its involvement in illegal wildlife trade. Further details await.
