GUWAHATI: The police have taken two individuals into custody who have been allegedly accused of orchestrating a fraudulent scheme involving the sale of two-wheelers worth lakhs of rupees at discounted rates on March 3.

The individuals identified as Ashish Hussain and Anwar Hussain, from a prominent two-wheeler showroom's sales and credit team, targeted various customers, including government officials and journalists, seeking to purchase new two-wheelers. Reports indicate that around 30 FIRs have been filed against the accused since Saturday, with an additional 17 registered yesterday.

According to statements, one victim, who chose to remain anonymous, disclosed that she paid a down payment of ₹65,000 for a two-wheeler purchase from the accused individuals. Subsequently, the fraudsters deceitfully opened two additional loan accounts in the victim's name at Muthoot Capital and TVS Credit, financing the purchase without her knowledge and misappropriating a substantial sum of money.
Upon discovering the fraudulent activities, the victim and her husband filed a police complaint at the Chandmari police station. An immediate investigation was initiated by the Chandmari police.
Talking to GPlus, a police official from Chandmari Police Station said, “We nabbed both of them yesterday on charges of fraud for selling off two-wheelers at discounted rates and scamming various people. The investigations are underway.
The police apprehended the two suspects at House No. 4 on Narmada Path in Guwahati's Gandhi Basti locality. The detained individuals, now face charges related to their alleged involvement in the fraudulent sale of two-wheelers and the unauthorised opening of loan accounts in customers' names.
