GUWAHATI: According to a report by PTI, two hindi serials, ‘Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai’ and ‘Tujhse Hai Raabta’ had aired a segment that showed the characters of the shows praising the Union government’s schemes.

Following this, election officials in Maharashtra have asked production houses of the two shows to get their “politically influential” content vetted first before telecast. The segment that aired espoused the BJP-led government’s schemes and it was a clear violation of the Model Code of Conduct, according to an election official.

The opposition party, Congress had taken objection to the shows content which praised schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Swacch Bharat Abhiyan and Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana.

The two production houses had subsequently replied to the notice and had denied the allegations of promoting government schemes to propagate a political party, claiming they had no such intention. They also claimed that government schemes shown were general in nature, according to the official.

The election officials in Maharashtra have since directed producers of the shows to remove the content that was deemed to benefit prospects of a political party.
