The attack took place at Baisaran, a meadow accessible only by foot or ponies, where a group of tourists had gone visiting this morning, the officials added.

According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Union Home Minister Amti Shah and asked him to take stock of the situation. Modi asked the Union Minister to take "suitable measures" and also visit the site, the sources said.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah termed the attack an "abomination". "The perpetrators of this attack are animals, inhuman & worthy of contempt. No words of condemnation are enough. I send my sympathies to the families of the deceased," he posted on X.

People's Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam. "I strongly condemn the cowardly attack on tourists in Pahalgam, which tragically killed one and injured several. Such violence is unacceptable and must be denounced," she wrote on X.

SHOT WHILE HAVING BHELPURI

“We were just having bhelpuri... and then he shot my husband,” a survivor recounted in a trembling voice, according to reports. Her husband was among those targeted. “The gunman said my husband was not a Muslim and then shot him,” she said, still in shock.

Another video from the scene showed a woman sobbing uncontrollably, begging for help. “Please save my husband,” she cried repeatedly, her words barely audible as tears choked her.

The man recording the video could be heard trying to console her, even as he tried to make sense of the chaos around him. Two bloodied men lay motionless on the ground nearby.

In another clip, a woman tending to a man with severe injuries pleaded urgently for help. “Sir, please, please, please ask for help,” she said, her voice cracking.
Security forces rushed to the spot following the terror attack.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-E-Taiba offshoot, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
