Tourism Department Launches Guwahati Heritage Walk To Promote City's Rich History

 

GUWAHATI: India tourism North East and Assam Tourism Development Corporation Limited in collaboration with Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI) - North East Chapter organised a 'Guwahati Heritage Walk' on Wednesday, October 6, in order to boost tourism in Guwahati.

The Heritage Walk started from the historic Northbrook Gate at Shukreshwar Ghat at approximately 6 am on the occasion of Mahalaya. 

The group led by storytellers including senior journalist Samudra Gupta Kashyap and eminent writer Dr Bhupendra Roychoudhury, walked towards the Old DC Bungalow, the Cotton Collegiate School, and the Cotton College in Guwahati. 

The tastefully designed tour map covering some of the most iconic locations of the city covered the Christ Church, Dighalipukhuri, Ugratara Devalaya, Jurpukhuri, Naojan Path of Uzan Bazaar where the residence of Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi is located and finally ended at the bank of the mighty Brahmaputra river.

Also present were Managing Director of Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) Deba Kumar Mishra, senior journalist Mrinal Talukdar, North East Chapter Chairman Arijit Purkayastha, and others to promote the city's rich heritage and culture.

The Assam Tourism Development Corporation aims to give a glimpse of the heritage and ethos of "Pragjyotishpur" to the visitors. Along the tour, the storytellers extensively described the history and other interesting facts about the several iconic spots and buildings located along the tour route. 

The Department and the stakeholders hope to continue this Guwahati Heritage Walk as an integral part of city tourism and to educate the younger generation of the glorious history of Guwahati.
