Three international financial institutions to fund Assam’s development project

GUWAHATI: Three financial institutions, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the World Bank will fund approximately Rs. 28,000 crore for various development projects in the state. 

The Assam Municipal Development Project, which will cost around Rs. 1400 crore, will be funded by World Bank and has been approved by NITI Aayog.

Similarly, the ADB will fund Rs. 720 crore for a boost in the tourism sector for the International Circuit Development Project in the tourism segment that has already been cleared and given a no-objection by the Ministry of External Affairs.

The ADB will also fund two other development projects, the Assam Road Network Improvement Project for Rs. 4000 crore and the Assam Power Distribution Enhancement System for Rs. 3200 crore. However, it should be noted that these projects are yet to be approved by DoNER ministry and Ministry of Transport and Highways. 

JICA will fund Rs. 3400 crore for the Assam Fishery Development and Livelihood Project.
